Stanley FatMax Pro-Stack is the other modular system most tradespeople end up owning, usually because a case came bundled with a tool. The good news for anyone who also runs DeWalt TSTAK: the internal footprint is the same, so the same organiser trays work in both. The bad news is that ToughSystem parts do not fit either of them.
Why the trays cross over
Pro-Stack and TSTAK are both slim, shallow modular systems built around a comparable internal bay. That is why a nesting tray printed for the TSTAK case drops into a Pro-Stack organiser with room to spare — same width, same depth, same lift-out behaviour. It is the deeper ToughSystem range that breaks the pattern.
What fits a Pro-Stack case
- Shallow nesting tray with dividers — screws, washers, fixings and bits
- Medium nesting tray with dividers — sockets, pliers, tape
- Large black organiser tray — deeper tools and bulkier items
- Large nesting tray — to carry a stack of two smaller trays
- Sliding tray — bits and drivers on the top layer
- Nesting cup lid — keeps small parts in when the case travels flat

What does not fit
- ToughSystem 2.0 divider sets (for DWST83407-1 and DWST83408-1). The cases are deeper; those dividers are cut for that depth and will not sit correctly in a Pro-Stack case.
- DWST1-70706 drawer bins. Those are shaped for a drawer position inside the TSTAK drawer unit, not for an open case bay.
If you are unsure which family your case belongs to, the lid is the tell: a clear organiser lid on a slim case is Pro-Stack or TSTAK; a deep opaque lid with heavy latches is ToughSystem.
Setting up a Pro-Stack organiser
The same logic that works for TSTAK works here:
- Bottom: the largest tray, holding the longest tools.
- Middle: a medium tray for sockets on a rail.
- Top: a shallow tray for fixings, or the sliding tray for bits.
- Lid: add the nesting cup lid if the case lives on a van floor.
The trays nest, so you can lift the fixings tray out without unpacking the sockets underneath. That single habit saves more time than any labelling system.
Pro-Stack vs TSTAK: same trays, different cases
Practically, the difference matters when you buy cases, not inserts. Pro-Stack and TSTAK clip within their own families — they do not stack on each other — but because our trays are sized to the shared internal bay, moving a tray from one to the other is not a problem. If you are gradually replacing one system with the other, the trays make the transition cheap.
Cleaning and longevity
Printed trays are solid plastic: wipe them with a damp cloth, rinse them under a tap, and they come back to colour. There is no foam insert to soak up oil and no fabric to fray. The one thing that ages them is heat — do not leave a loaded case on a dashboard or beside a heater, because any printed plastic will soften before metal or injection-moulded ABS does.
Questions we get most
Are these genuine Stanley parts?
No. They are 3D-printed by ToolTrayPro and sized to fit Pro-Stack cases. We are independent and not affiliated with Stanley Black & Decker.
Will the trays stop the case lid closing?
A single tray, or a nested stack of two, sits inside the lid line. If you stack three, check the lid closes without pressure before filling them.
Can I use these in a ToughSystem case?
No — ToughSystem cases are deeper and take their own divider sets. Our DWST83407-1 and DWST83408-1 inserts cover those.
Not sure which case you have? Send us a photo of the label and we will confirm the fit before you order.
